The Condemned
Jack Conrad is awaiting the death penalty in a corrupt Central American prison. He is “purchased” by a wealthy television producer and taken to a desolate island where he must fight to the death against nine other condemned killers from all corners of the world, with freedom going to the sole survivor.
The Hunger Games
One boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 from each district are selected by annual lottery to participate in the Hunger Games, an event in which the participants must fight in an outdoor arena controlled by the Capitol, until only one remains.

Maybe instead of arguing over plot similarities, everyone should just enjoy the books and movies for what they are.
